Outstanding! That’s the best word to explain Divided We Scroll. It’s a compelling and chilling film which depicts societies obsession and compulsive relationship with technology.
Director Klaas Diersmann tells his story in a totally unique and original way, through contemporary dance. Which may surprise some audiences when they hear it, but it managers to convey its message far better than words could. Diersmann vision is solid and told with total understanding of visual storytelling and filmmaking.
The cinematography and use of light captured by director of photography Beatriz Sastre is breathtaking. The high end production quality tells the audience that they are watching something truly special and unique. The use of practical lights and low lighting throughout is used to great effect in focusing on the glow of the dancers faces.
What’s also impressive is the locations which all tie together perfectly. The scenes in the underground train is a compelling and crafted visual which hits the mark straight away.
The choreography by Pepa Ubera work incredibly well and only adds to the chilling and dark tones of the film. The performances from the dancers deliver a dramatic and powerful message which work hand in hand with the amazing camera work.
This film will surprise many viewers and leave them looking at their own relationship with technology. It's a film made with complete skill and artistic passion within filmmaking and storytelling.
