When his compressed gas keyboard cleaner does not arrive on time, Mr. Guthrert Vratrol decides to take matters into his own impatient hands, rapidly hastening his own demise.

Let’s start off by saying this film is absoloutly hilarious and played to perfection by lead James Hyland, who jumps in at the deep end with the role of ‘Mr. Guthrert Vratrol’. Hyland’s physicality throughout the film is inspiring and he doesn’t hold back, giving his body over to us for our own amusement. It’s worth mentioning that Hyland also plays the role of the narrator, which would surprise audiences upon reading the credits. Both roles are immensely contrasted and work seamlessly with each other.

The concept of the film is simple, but it’s what director/writer Louis Norton Selzer does with it that makes this film so good. The pacing of the film goes 100mph and injects as many laughs as possible throughout. The writing is superb and well structured, allowing for Hyland to use his comedic timing to great effect.

Production wise, the film stands up. The special effects work great, adding more to the humour with their simplicity. As our lead character continues his journey, he becomes more and more beaten up which reminds us of the Burglars stunts from Home Alone.

The score from Thomas Curran has an unassuming comedic feeling to it which fits the film perfectly and dances with the action. This only adds to the absurdity of the story and Mr Vratrol’s impatience. Same goes for the sound design which makes the cringing moments all the more uncomfortable and hilarious.

The film also does well with its smaller roles as we have a good range of other actors jumping in to add more laughs. Even though they only appear on screen for sheer moments, they’re memorable and well performed. This goes to show that with a good script it doesn’t matter how long the part is.

The Impatient (Man Who Made His Life Considerably Shorter) is guaranteed to get laughs in front of any audience. It’s both absurd and joyously pure comedy with an excellent performance from James Hyland and expert directing from Louis Norton Selzer. If you have the chance to see this film, do it. You won’t be disappointed…
