Gorji J - Silent Smile
“Nominated Best Music Video”
★★★★
“A lot of time and effort was clearly spent making this totally tailored to the track.”
Held captive, a mystical being must find a way to escape…
Director Adam Jordan delves into what seems like a neon thriller in this music video from drummer turned soloist Gorgi J. It’s abstract visuals and captivating story create a memorable counterpart to an intriguing track. Jordan had a clear concept in mind that’s well thought out and delivered with precision, making this a compelling music video worth watching.
One of the more recognisable achievements with this music video is the editing and visual effects which work seamlessly together. There is a style that’s not easily recreated and feels unique to the director and artist. A lot of time and effort was clearly spent making this totally tailored to the track without cutting any corners, allowing for an immersive experience whilst watching.
The cinematography is striking and bold, especially with the vivid lighting that gives it a distinct look you won’t find anywhere else. Considering that the artist features in the track in two opposing roles, the blocking and framing are done exceedingly well. The colour in the video is impactful and graded well, demonstrating an experienced filmmaker at the wheel. A music video like this is an ideal production to try something a little different that isn’t constrained by the rules of the narrative.
The artist Gorji J is superb in the video, and looks very comfortable on the screen. A lot was required from him within the video but he delivers a great performance that’s subtle and methodical, something that elevates the quality of the video. Based on this we would expect him to appear in future videos as it’s clearly working.
The tone and look of the video ties in well with the style of music and expands on the narrative within the track. Both the director and the artist clearly work well together and we hope to see more of their collaborations in the future…
