Raw and hard hitting with a sense of realism that’s hard to capture in a short film

After 4 years since his father’s passing, Enoch Rose, returns home to his family for the holidays. His family, which now only consist of his sister and nephew, have a family tradition every year to spend time on Christmas but a secret buried inside makes him reluctant enter the house.

Writer, director and lead actor Frantzy Moreau delivers a captivating and emotionally rich story that pulls you in and doesn’t let go. It’s raw and hard hitting with a sense of realism that’s hard to capture in a short film, demonstrating a clear understanding of both storytelling and the subject material.

Overall the production quality is good and maintains a consistent look throughout. Moreau made a good choice bringing in Isaac Mead-Long as Director of Photography as it really helped elevate the film and ensure the story was captured well for the screen.

The performances is where this film excels. Moreau who plays the role of ‘Enoch’ clearly understands the characters and casts them perfectly. There is a great dynamic between Racquel B. John and Moreau that feels very natural and authentic. Alex Bernadotte is captivating and takes on the role of the lead gang member with a sense of power and control.

The story itself has its own unique take on a genre that’s well been documented. Where this film flourishes is the emotional connection you feel for the characters and where the story takes them. Subtle details were key to make this film work and tackles the message of trauma and grief in a way that doesn’t feel forced like so many we’ve seen before. It doesn’t have to spell out details that are better left unsaid, making you pay more attention and piece areas of the story together yourself.

This was a great entry from Moreau and the team that explores a dynamic story worth everyones time. So if you’re looking for a powerful and character driven short drama then Frantzy Moreau’ Boy with Angle Wings is one to watch…
