“Cannata pulls it off with ease, showing a complete understanding of the genre”

Two screenwriters, a ghost story, the night that goes on. Who will put an end to this?

Director Piero Cannata has succeeded in making not only a unique take on a horror film, but one with originality and humour. This makes for an entertaining watch and justifies the countless Official Selections and awards it’s won to date. It has a slight element of dark humour to it, which ties in well to the characters writing the story as it plays out.

Daniele Marotta and Monica Zanforlin play off each-other excellently, with a sense of genuine familiarity. Both provide great performances and pull of the script flawlessly. Always trying to one up the other, the story escalates until a grizzly end.

The use of voiceover keeps the pace of the film moving just when you expect a big fright. This all builds to the end when we realise what’s really happening.

The story inside of a story is a nice touch and in the hands of a less experience filmmaker, could be a challenge to pull off. But Cannata pulls it off with ease, showing a complete understanding of the genre.

The locations and lighting work really well and create a distinct look to the storytelling scenes. It oddly feels reminiscent of a Goosebumps TV episode, which is by no means a bad thing.

Everything in the production works together seamlessly to create a memorable and enjoyable short horror which will entertain not just horror enthusiast but film lovers in general.
